Looking for a last minute gift for your kids, your nieces, nephews?

When I was a child my aunts and uncles gave me Treasury bonds. But my parents had to hold them, nobody remembered where they went, and of course with inflation they ended up being basically worthless.

So here’s what I do today instead.

STEP 1

I download a basic Bitcoin wallet app and create a separate wallet for each kid.

STEP 2

I send about $50 of Bitcoin into each one.

STEP 3

Each wallet has its own seed phrase. I print it out and give one copy to the parents, and I keep one backup.

STEP 4

Then I print out the public address QR code, put it in a small picture frame, and give it to the child.

So now they can scan it anytime and see their Bitcoin growing… but they can’t can spend it without their grownups’ permission.

After that, I deleted the wallet app completely. The Bitcoin is only spendable via the seed phrase safety held by an adult.

And every birthday, Christmas, Easter or whenever… I can just send more Bitcoin to that same address.

Now they can watch their savings stack up for years.
