I served with a Salvadoran guy in the US Army. He was forced to fight in El Salvador's civil war a few years starting age 13.

Taliban mortar attacks didn't bother him nor did small arms fire. But he wanted us to "wake [him] up for big arms fire." We never understood what he said but just knew he meant it.
