I run it on my desktop PC because there's no reason to set up a second computer just for a Bitcoin node.

So you run 24/7 your computer? What specs do you have?

12core/24thread Ryzen CPU. 64 GB RAM. Have a separate 1TB drive just for blockchain storage. And yeah my computer runs 24/7 I never shut it down.

Also don't you think isolating your bitcoin node from your daily life make sense? Like if anything effects your pc, affects your node.

I’ve done it both ways. Umbrel has a cool way of running a node where you can hide it away and access it remotely on your phone

The wallets associated with my full node I consider hot wallets and don't store funds in them. I just use them as pass-through wallets. 90% of my Bitcoin is in cold storage, associated with private keys that have never been on any internet connected device. Most of the other 10% I keep in Edge wallet on my phone, because they have a good security model. Wallet of Satoshi and Alby I just keep chump change in because they're not secure at all.

Laptop , i3 8th generation, 12Go RAM, 1To HDD. Why ? Because that old laptop was not used since a long time ago 😅

I have an old laptop too. But it shuts off after 15 minutes while its plugged in, and does not even start without being plugged in. 😂 Maybe not the best.

But maybe, I could just try to repair, and utilize as btc node. That kind of make sense.

I have also an rpi, but too much people says it is shitty for a node, so maybe there could be some truth to it.

It all depends on how much time and money you are willing to put for this 😁

I like to do it cheaply, but in a way that it is cheap for long term. So I don't have to replace it soon.

Raspberry Pi performing well for me.

I picked that platform and https://raspibolt.org/ because (a) it’s a lot of fun for a hobbyist and (b) working at the nuts and bolts level helps build understanding of the ecosystem.

Which rpi and with how big ram are you using?

Pi 4 with 4Gb running Bitcoin and Lightning. Passive cooling case so it’s noiseless. Been up for months without issue.

Are you using it as a ln node as well?

mini ITX fanless PC with modded case to host 2 SSD in raid

PI 4

Did you see any performance issue with it?

For me everything works well. No issues on my side
