Well, we have the idea that history develops in a kinda linear fashion - we started as some single celled organism in a primordial swamp and evolved into the awesome idiots we are now. But the Vedic idea is that we go round in circles, becoming more conscious and intelligent and then less so in a cycle of 24,000 years.
