That is not "verification" and to call it this is misleading.
Unless you have your very own domain that only you control, nip05 gives little to now assurance what so ever.
There might emerge some nip-05 services that do KYC but without that - without knowing well the nip-05 service, it means nothing. There is plenty of free such services out there that don't even require resolving a captcha.
KYC verification is very dangerous to individual and shouldn’t be a common practice but thats my opinion.
Nip05 is form of verification. If I have website I can verify my name with my own website, for content creators that’s probably the best way.
Another way as a creator, I could add to all my socials, podcast feed and so on not only npub but easily visible information that Im verified at certain website. Also #[3] could mention where he is verified at the start of his podcasts.
But I agree that NIP05 is not perfect solution and doesn’t equal old bluecheck verification from shitcoiner’s bird app.
Yep, you're trusting the NIP-05 service as being the verifier unless you host on your own domain for sure.
