The initial synchronisation of a Bitcoin node is becoming increasingly tedious, especially with last year's blocks full of crap.

The only wallet that allows you to check your transactions privately without having a node is Wasabi with its implementation of BIP158.

The way BIP158 works is simple, the backend of wasabi serves the client the index of filters, that is to say, which transactions are in each block. If the client detects that it has a transaction in some block, then what it does is to download the entire block of a random node on the network from tor, so you don't expose your addresses or your xpub.

Bitcoin Core has also long supported BIP158 so the Bitcoin network itself can provide the filters.

Sparrow, for example, if it added this functionality, it would be totally private without having to use your node and more of the same for all hardware wallet software that is not private.

Even if you operate behind Tor like Trezor, the server ends up knowing your entire balance, so I recommend using your hardware wallet with Wasabi if you don't have a full node, as it is HWI compatible.

I wonder why sparrow and more wallets don't do this
