Just learned that big blocks obviously take longer to download, therefore the mining pool that mined the latest block have an advantage over other pools who have to download their competitors block before they can proceed to mine the next block.

Smaller blocks reduce that advantage and was another factor in the 2015 - 2017 block size wars where decentralisation won.
