the bigger takeaway here is actually that now i can't trust scotts brand. it's the most represented brand in home depot so i assumed it was good. i been spending hundreds on their seed and it works fine but i don't really have anything to compare it to.

after seeing what garbage their seed spreader is i am starting to think this is a walmart level brand and maybe i should look at some other seed instead.

this is the danger of trying to cover too many market segments with the same brand - you end up ruining your good name.

this happened to Mercedes i think when they introduced entry level front wheel drive cars ...

VW group is smart to keep clear differentiation between Porsche, Bentley, Audi and VolksWagen brands - you know exactly what to expect with each brand.

you know you will get value with VW, you will get comfort and safety with audi, performance with porsche and luxury with bentley. they could have sold all of those cars under the same brand but then a person who had a bad experience with a Jetta would overlook a Panamera because they would assume it's equally bad.

that pin that fell out of the scotts mini seed spreader was just the straw that broke the camel's back - the final nail in its coffin. it was already a bad product before that for many other reasons. the fact that the worst spreader on the market is also the one occupying the most visible shelf in Home Depot really makes you question whether maybe Scotts and Home Depot have a relationship that is a bit too cozy.

i usually always try to buy the biggest brand. i am not the type of guy who always looks for underground stuff. but when i see things i don't like i get mad and want to boycott it.

i am boycotting Apple and Tesla so far ... not yet ready to boycott Scott's but certainly will not assume their products are good just because they are the biggest anymore ...
