Black tea stains the teeth and even mugs so bad. At one point I switched to green tea because it was less staining to the teeth. Then I gave up all caffeine.

Yeah, adequate sleep is better than habitual caffeine, in my opinion.
We drink a lot of tea and coffee and all of our mugs get terribly stained. I homebrew beer and use Pro Brewery Wash (PBW) to clean up after a brew day. I discovered that it also works wonders on stained mugs.
To clean coffee and tea stains on mugs (NOT teeth) put a tablespoon of PBW in half a gallon of hot water. Not boiling, only like as hot as your hands can stand. Soak the mug for 15-30 minutes and the stain wipes right off. It has never damaged any of the printing on the mugs.

You can get it at any homebrew shop or online.
Barkeeperโs Friend works a treat too on stained mugs no soaking required. Available at most grocers, targets, etc.
My secret for cleaning mugs after black tea: rinse the mug and shake in some baking soda, enough to be just a bit dry but clump up. Smear it all around the mug and watch all that staining come right up. Itโs amazing how well baking soda cleans so many thingsโฆ
My intuition is baking soda toothpastes clean tooth enamel similarly, but even if you keep swearing off caffeine, this trick can really deep clean any mugs you still have.
