Is there really a big security difference between 12 and 24 seed words? Obviously 24 is more but is 12 really not enough?

I’ve wondered the same thing. 12 seems way more manageable in a situation where memorization is required (like when fleeing a country) but 24 words seems to be the norm.

Quite a bit bigger. I believe 24 words is close to the # of atoms in the known universe

12 words: 2048^12

24 words: 2048^24

Made infinitely harder with a passphrase for either.

Consider your risk profile and use a passphrase.

I've had the same thought. Wish wallets would let you choose 12 or 24. I'd prefer 12 and a good passphrase. I don't need as much entropy as atoms in the universe

#[4] let you choose

Most wallets do let you choose if you generate the key outside of the wallet with your own entropy.

Within the wallet you would be selecting restore

existing, rather than create new.

Every bitcoin wallet that will ever be used already exists, it just needs to be discovered.

Thanks for blowing my mind! Sometimes I forget little nuggets like this

Me too 🤙

Yo pensaba que la lista de palabras de las semillas de 12 palabras era más amplia que la de 24, con lo que la entropía era la misma.

No es así? 🤔
