I lived in Bulgaria for a few months back in 2017 in an old village. These people were living under communism for years.

Everyone had a yard like this, no lawns. Community watering system, a communal spring for drinking water, community wine presses, community firewood splitter. No ornamental trees, only fruit & nut trees.
