The context of this verse that few understand is that in Jews operated a different currency than the romans inside of the temple. So, in order for Jews to go and tithe at the temple, they had to exchange the Roman currency for the Jewish currency. The Pharisees and the Jewish leadership used this distortion of Mosaic law to extort regular people and to steal Roman currency for essentially useless Jewish currency.
When Jesus said he is the fulfillment of the law, abolishment of all of the manmade, Mosaic practices like this is what He was referring to. Jesus calls us to repent, believe, and experience a change of heart that RESULTS in a change of our actions.
Furthermore, this is the only recorded instance in the Bible where Jesus uses physical, coercive, perfectly holy, perfectly righteous, force against evil. One of my favorite versus of all time.
Thank you
Weird? Jews doing deceitful things?!
It’s sinful, unredeemed people doing evil things. Jews and Gentiles alike back then and today both have the opportunity to repent and believe in Christ.
moneychagers are ancient parasites
Great stuff!
This year's season of The Chosen shows this scene. It's pretty dramatic!
