You're doing pullups... what happens when you can't pull yourself up anymore?

Do one more. Now another one. No? You can't do it anymore? Take a break.

Now do it again. How many? Until you can't do anymore. Take a break. Do it again. But you are tired? Do more. Until you are devastated.

Now you are coming close to your limits. But you can go past the limit.

This is wasted potential.
