On Nostr you just do the thing and people use it or don't.
Hence the "extent" part; also helps that older or superceded NIP's don't cause breakage down the line as Mastodon did to ActivityPub, which lead to Pleroma (when they were actually doing development) having to play ball with Mastodon artificially restricting what the spec could do.
Same applies to every form that's not named Rebased or Ditto.
