I assume it wants your phone number to verify, but I didn't check.
Oh yeah, I bet it does. Especially in the US, phone numbers are used as "prove I am a person" thing all the time. It basically means "prove I have a credit card and a relationship with either Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile". Horrible.
