But, even if someone does possess superhuman levels of a particular virtue, what guarantees assurance that they'll use it for heroic reasons?

No guarantees... I believe those who have done/do heroic or epic things both good and evil could have swung the other way. Hitler could have been a mother Teresa and vice versa.
