From what I can tell from limited testing, even with background app refresh on and notifications active, #bitchat doesn’t show you as connected if the app is minimized or your Home Screen is locked. Is this others’ experience? #asknostr

Possibly it does not, or cannot, run as a background process? On Android it asks to remove battery optimization ostensibly in order to continue functionality in the background. I don't know about iOS. I've also not yet been able to test it out in the wild yet as nobody else utilizes it.
This doesn't seem to be the case on Android. From my testing I can see my locked phone as available in the mesh, messages are received and you get notifications of DM when they arrive pretty much in real time. Battery usage isn't even that bad, bitchat was showing as less than 1%
Idk I don't use apps that require your phone number to make an account as that is a trace to you.
Bitchat doesn't require that. It is a Bluetooth mesh/Nostr message app.
The app you're looking at is probably not the right one.

That one is a different app. I'm assuming they built it using the GitHub published code by Dorsey.

Yeah, that's easier. Until it's on the Playstore, it'll be confusing to know which is which.
Even on the PlayStore there a questionable version already 😂 I think calle will have an official one up soon though. Maybe he's getting the 1.2 update ready.
Just updated. It works. However, notifications do not work with app minimized and Home Screen locked. Even with banners set to persist. Work in progress
