Subscriptions were invented to keep supporting some continuous work, out of economic necessity, however nowadays they are overused everywhere, due to plain old greed. Especially, when looking at commercial cloud services, they mostly take just subscriptions to steal even more money from you, even if it isn't economically necessary.
