ok, set me straight. if the trichs are clear, it's too soon, if they're cloudy, it's time. if they get "rusty" it's late. accurate or no?

Based on my personal knowledge, when the trichomes are clear, that’s when they are peeked. Once they turn cloudy or milky it’s time to use. If it’s rusty then that means, no good. It’s still smokeable but not at its peek.
Brown or rusty types normally are followed with start of molding.
Now it all depends on the specific grower, strain type, environment and so fourth.
