Primal does it with a custodial wallet provided by nostr:npub1ex7mdykw786qxvmtuls208uyxmn0hse95rfwsarvfde5yg6wy7jq6qvyt9 and direct sats purchases for those wallets from ApplePay. It’s a nice experience but even though it’s open source it isn’t something you could easily run on your own.

Thats right, for small mounts that I zap, is totally fine. You can also send elsewhere bought sats there and zap it. I think, that would make damus a comparable client too, if they integrate it too. And btw, apple should go to hell with their policies.
It’s quite pricey and complicated to do the strike integration. Plus it’s custodial and means that if you rely on it then the app loses its ability for users to build and run things themself aspect of open source. I suspect the second reason is why nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s hasn’t done it.
I think with the little complicated node connection for the direct zapping, Damus could also add this custodial service too and user decides what they take.
