Could I ask what makes you feel secure than none of the core dev team has been co-opted? Genuine question, as this does seem to be one of the larger risks.
Additionally, can you speak to the pathetically low amount of full nodes being run and it’s anemic growth.

Some may be, which is why it is important that no single dev has much control, and bitcoin is incredibly difficult to change by default.
I wouldn't say node usage is pathetically low but it is what it is. We cannot force people to run nodes, but the priority is to make them as easy and cheap to run as possible and I think we have been pretty successful on that front.
