I'm always amazed by the Skyline. I remember the 1975 GT-R as a kid and after seeing that beast that you've just described, I decided to do a search and find out if that 1970s GT-R was the original. It isn't! The original is a car that was from another company in 1957 which later merged with Nissan. Is there any other car that has changed so much over it's evolution?

I can't really think of any that have been in continuous production. I can think of dozen examples of where a manufacturer revives an old name plate and is a radical departure from the original, 6th gen Dodge Charger for instance, but I'm drawing blanks in terms of continuous production. The Skyline/GTR is a special and I would count it as automotive royalty since it has outlasted much of the competition from Europe, North America and domestically in Japan.

The 1957 Skyline from Prince Motor company!
