Every now and then I'll see Monero pop up on here. Is it just another Shitcoin or something else? I don't feel like researching.

I'm going to take a look at it. I've never heard of it before until I got on here
I heard that it's more private and not as easily tracable
impossible to trace and track. but you can allow it to prove a transaction. that is the beauty. basically it is built like bitcoin but smarter: there is a tail emission which gives miners endless income and motivation creating mathematically <1% inflation. bitcoin will end mining in 20 years and fees will have to explode. also monero can be mined on any computer. bitcoin only on asics, special expensive computers only millionaires can afford

Like Bitcoin, Monero is a proof-of-work cryptocurrency. Unlike Bitcoin, its ledger obfuscates senders’ addresses, does not record recipients’ addresses, and conceals transaction amounts. Nonetheless, the protocol prevents double-spending and allows any sender to prove he sent x moneroj to a particular recipient.
If you want simple, cheap, comprehensive, default, superior privacy and fungibility - transact with Monero
If you want to preserve the value of your savings (proven longterm so far) - save in Bitcoin
I think that is something many bitcoiners can get behind and makes sense. The spend in Monero, save in Bitcoin, checkings vs savings model.
Of course you can still attain good enough bitcoin privacy, that is more expensive to do, time-consuming, requires some technical knowledge and understanding, and even after doing perfectly is still not as good as Monero. Akin to using a screwdriver as a hammer.
