Asset Reallocation

The salmon exemplifies the impact of nutrient redistribution. The fish store ocean nutrients in tissues and, as they are predated upon their return to fresh water streams and rivers, the nutrients are returned inland.

Bears mostly only take the fatty skin and leave the rest of the carcass which is picked apart by other animals and what is not decomposes into the soil. As these other animals excrete wastes and then eventually die themselves all nutrients lost to the sea and returned.
