Petroglyphs are like vivid recorders of time, displaying ancient cultures and tales on rocks for millennia.

In Guangxi, the over 2,000-year-old Huashan Rock Paintings, which measures some 221 meters wide by 40 meters high and boasts more than 1,800 recognizable portraits, depict the life and beliefs of the ancient Luoyue people.

At Abar Himma in Saudi Arabia, a large number of rock paintings and carvings depict scenes of local life such as hunting, living, and dancing.

Dating from prehistoric times to the present day, they span a period of up to 7,000 years. [Photo: VCG]
