‘Becoming 1% better everyday’

‘Kaizen (改善) is a Japanese term that means "continuous improvement." It comes from two words:

"Kai" (改) = change

"Zen" (善) = good

In practice, Kaizen is a philosophy focused on making small, incremental improvements over time, often in the context of business, manufacturing, or personal development. It's widely used in lean manufacturing and quality management systems like Toyota's Production System.

The core idea: small changes, consistently applied, lead to big improvements over time.’

Yeah, it adds up to a lot over the year -> 1.01^365 -> ~37x improvement

Yeah, I used to teach classes on it to engineers.

Toyota popularized it.

I bet you were a cool teacher ❤️‍🔥🫂

Ha ha! I was, actually. I taught the senior year in high school and everyone showed up early for class, every week, all excited.

It was the same with the engineers.

Sorry, I've had multiple teaching jobs and forgot which one we were talking about. 😂
