Ah I don't know about downcast. Do you stream from OBS to Owncast to zap.stream? Why add the extra hop?
Discussion
Because Owncast is on my own server and I also want to broadcast to Fediverse folks and there’s already a decent Owncast community there.
I go to zap stream for the zaps obviously but maybe there’s a better way…
Yeah I thought zap stream will Rebroadcast to other services. Idk, I think you want to go to OBS-streaming endpoint directly. I would at least try it once.
Because maybe it's re encoding the stream? In any case, I'd take it out of the loop, try and see how the stream changes before you chase down other issues.
I think it was smoother this morning but still a bit sketchy at the start. I made sure nothing else was online (Nextcloud etc.)
Bandwidth was pretty low once streaming, around 5mbps. Down from 18 pre stream.
We are prone to internet drop outs in my area, I’ve mostly put that down to work being done installing new fibre in the area. Today was definitely an improvement.
Yeah right on. I still think you don't have to turn everything else off unless you are doing backups or so.
Also, it's the video that's the hog. If you turn the frame rate et. Al down and perhaps just show the spinning LP, you'll be pushing less data.
For example, take a look at some of the radio streams. They sometimes just have a static image or QR code. So their frame rate is like 1 because the image never changes and then they are just pushing audio.
But yeah, it's all experimentation.
Good advice, I’ll try dropping the frame rates and see what happens.
My initial settings were on a video saying ‘how the get the best from OBS’ or something like that so they’re probably optimal visual settings. I want the audio quality high, the visuals are way less important. Cheers:)
Yeah right on. You inspired me to look into audio streaming. There's still the OG icecast for pure internet radio stations.
But, most everyone is switching to HLS streaming with video. It could do audio only, but I think perhaps the interest isn't there.
So the hack is basically a static video 😀
