Apple have caved in, here in The UK!
Time to ditch apple
When labour won the election and there was talk of a red wave, I didnβt think it would be so red it would make Stalinβs police blush. Time to ditch my Apple phone.
Ha ha, very true! I've never had an iPhone but I do use a Mac for music production. When my current phone dies, it's a de-googled pixel for me.
π«‘π Iβm very tempted by an unplugged phone or one like the one I got for my kid. Back to a Nokia dumb phone!!!!!
Time to ditch the UK Government.
unreal
Centralised platforms and authorities are going to do what they've always done... π©
The citizens of England and Europe have caved.
This just goes to show that even though companies may claim your data is safe with them right now, this might not be the case in the future.
Companies are in the business of making money first and foremost. This is not bad. You should just keep in mind that if that model is under threat, anything you entrusted them with might be too.
Is it a caving, or a protest? If they built a back door it would have been a cave, but I see this as a weak-handed protest. Instead of nerfing their security, they just removed security from UK customers in order to leave it secure for all other regions.
In tech, normies will always lose, and I think normies use Apple for the most part. Citizens probably don't even care much about security.
And now UK gov will have to reevaluate their policies for allowing public officials use of iPhone for their daily ops.
The was a linked article in that one that said that this has major implications on the US, as well. That Apple will will not have separate encryption software for the different global regions. That American customers will be affected.
