Experimenting with Home Assistant and ESPHome to make a not-yet-smart wireless speaker with NO Google or Amazon integration at all.

Bought this bamboo toothbrush cup as a possible makeshift enclosure for the speaker + esp32s3 + mono amp.

Turns out that the BOX IT CAME PACKAGED IN sounded WAY better! 🤣

Trying whatever other options I can find around the house. One tape roll core was disappointing, but TWO tape roll cores sounds pretty f'n good!

Hard to appreciate in the video, but it goes from tinny and shallow to the mids just popping into existence the moment the speaker is properly seated.

Certainly not audiophile grade, but pretty impressive for a $1.95 speaker and a $2.78 3W amp!

Home Assistant is amazing, I use it to control my immersion miners to heat my house.

I'm only about a week or two in, but REALLY amazed by Home Assistant so far and especially the ESPHome possibilities.

My initial focus is home security. Adding door sensors and building these wireless speakers to announce "Front door opened", etc. Just want to get more situational awareness and buy me more time if anyone were to break in.

Will def be fun to integrate my home mining when I resume in the winter.

Yeah the "Miner" Integration by @schnitzel works pretty well, although only with Ant miners with Braiins firmware

Acoustic suspension (sealed enclosure) vs. bass reflex (vented enclosure).

Very cool project, let us know how it progresses
