So let me get this straight…
We’re not actually required to file federal income tax because, under tax law, “United States” refers to D.C.? Meaning residents of the 50 states aren’t subject to federal income tax? The 16th Amendment wasn’t what we thought?
Basically, the definition of the U.S. in that context is federal land—aka Washington D.C. If you live outside of D.C., you pay state income tax, and the state handles payments to the federal government.
Filing a 1040 waives your 5th Amendment right, so you’re essentially incriminating yourself. If you lie on it, you risk prison. But if you just don’t file… you’re actually within the law?
Can we get this tweet to go semi-viral so someone fact-checks this? Because if true, this is a major breakthrough.
