I lived of grid in CA for about a year. Now I have grid electricity and I love it so much.

Being able to turn the lights on without worrying about battery life is priceless.

I am generally okay without, but the heat made it almost unbearable. I would have to design a home that used more passive cooling techniques or move to a cooler climate.

Good for you! Any valuable lessons you would pass along?

Have a big enough generator to operate a refrigerator/freezer and air conditioner (at least a small one and at the very least a fan)

I also forgot to mention to store fuel. The entire region ran out of fuel due to everyone buying fuel for generators, chainsaws, and their vehicles. @jackspirko has a great method to storing fuel that he discusses on The Survival Podcast.
