Overall, shitcoins.
Nuanced answer: if you can get Rolex sports watches, like submariner and Daytona, IN STEEL, at retail… you’re good. It’ll hold value better than Fiat. My watches outperformed the S&P. That being said, you can play this game at any level, and it costs a lot just to look like everyone else, so I consider Rolex the Nike Air Jordans of watches
That being said, if you’re hell-bent on finding a good vintage watch, you won’t find good examples in better condition than in Japan - but you’ll pay for it… 😅

It’s a really deep rabbit hole. Market just hit a huge correction off ATH during the pandemic. There are deals, but important to know what to look out for. Polishing, repairs, swapped parts.
