I think the search on Organic Maps needs a lot of work.
Once you find where you want to go just click "route to". I also think they could've used a lot more colours or better buttons to make this more visible.
True, though driving instructions (which is the main hook for Google) is still super clunky.
Got stuck the other day and had to switch back to Google, even though I'm trying so hard to boycott it. Sigh, can only hope someone will keep patching/upgrading a new Maps #FreedomTech app.
Organic Maps is basically the same code base/app, except that CoMaps was forked a few months ago.
Search is indeed bad and I've only used navigation for short routes by foot.
Osmand is my way to go since years. I never used google maps, so i cannot compare. I is not perfect but i am satisfied enough. I use it in Greece. You can find it on f-droid also.
Thanks, was taking a look at the F-droid list through a friend, but they also recommended Organic Maps and i was already using (and struggling) with it. Will try OSM.
I'm okay with a some struggle tbh, that's what we get for letting the Oligarchy flourish for so long.
There is no much strughle, the app is good, so you will be ok with that. It is openstreetmap that is slightly inaccurate sometimes or maybe hasn't all the points of interest you could expect to find i guess. Other than that, it is ok
