I listened to the whole call and I watched the whole Silk Road drama play out back in the day.
What I saw then was an arrogant young fool actively taunting the authorities and eventually getting caught. His behavior in direct contrast to Satoshi Nakanori who cautioned against stirring the hornet's nest.
What I heard in the call is a somewhat chastened older man acknowledging that he may have harmed or set back Bitcoin (I believe he did harm community adoption) and apologizing for the distress he caused his family, which nearly killed his mother.
That's good that he's made that partial journey in self knowledge (a 'gift' that prison cam bestow). And I agree that the way he was prosecuted and the very harsh prosecution he received was very problematic (but not at all uncommon in the US 'Justice' system). So I'm happy to see him out of prison but after serving some time within.
But he's not a Bitcoin hero, and I heard nothing in the call to indicate he has any special or unique insights into Bitcoin. So I very much caution against the movement for his freedom being transmuted into adopting Ross as some kind of spokesman for Bitcoin.
