The reason government wants to argue that bitcoin is not property, despite taxing it like property, is that the US constitution (that pesky little document that lists the powers we the people have narrowly granted to the government) requires the government to compensate citizens whenever the government takes their property. This is why gun bans always have a “grandfather clause”…because they can’t afford to pay for all the items they want to take.
