If you are spinning up a Bitcoin Core Node then you don't need a Lightning Node.

You have to have a Bitcoin Core node running before you can spin up a LN node.

Only then can you open a channel to another LN node or have someone open a channel to your LN node.

Does this help?

It is a bit confusing. I had a functioning LND node with some liquidity. Then Umbrel shit the bed and all the channels closed.

What I'm trying my to do is set up lightning payouts for Ocean. They require a bolt12 offer. Apparently this requires a core lightning node.

Basically I need sim me way to create a bolt12 offer.

are you using umbrel still? i have this very setup working for me but im using Start9, would be very capable to help you get it all set up but i might not know how to do some things in umbrel.

Thanks a lot. I will hit you up if I get stuck.

I don't know any node-on-the-phone options that are using Core Lightning, so you will need a new full node, since your Umbrel is done-for.

My recommendation in that department would be Start9,

Then you need to get Bitcoin Core installed and start downloading the full blockchain. If your Umbrel was running on a Raspberry Pi, you will be pleasantly surprised at how fast the Start9 dowloads and validates the full blockchain.

Now you can install Core Lightning. You will need to transfer some sats to your node on-chain for setting up any channels you want, too.

As for who to open channels with: If you are only using this node to receive mining rewards from OCEAN, it makes the best sense to open a channel directly with them in the size you want to build up in your lightning balance before sending it off to cold storage.

Once the channel is set up, all the liquidity is on your side of the channel. That does you no good since you want to receive from OCEAN, so use boltz.exchange to either send the full amount to either your cold storage or back to your node's on-chain balance to set up more channels that you may want.

Now you are ready to create your offer invoice to give to OCEAN using either the Core Lightning UI or Ride the Lightning.

Thanks for the reply. After a fresh install on the SD card and quite a spell resyncing the blockchain the Umbrel is back up and running.

I didn't realize I could open a channel with Ocean. This is all so interesting, but also time consuming. I works like to go down the rabbit hole, however there is to much choring to do. Someday.

I also have a start 9 server. Both on RPi's. The Start 9 is syncing at about .25% per day. Brutally slow.

Yeah, validating blocks on a Raspberry Pi is the bottleneck. More beefy hardware will have you up and running in just a couple days.

Umbrel is no more?

I raised it from the dead.
