you can think of it as a fancy word for data server, which anyone can run! thus the decentralization since they are spread all over the place

Relay is Nostr's server, used to store and retrieve user events and data. It is decentralized, and everyone can run their own relay. Your data can be stored on as many relay addresses as you add through the client.
