The Patriot missile system is primarily designed to detect, track, and intercept airborne threats, including:
🎯 Primary Targets:
1. Tactical ballistic missiles (TBMs) – e.g., Scud missiles.
2. Cruise missiles – low-flying, maneuverable missiles.
3. Advanced aircraft – including fighters and bombers.
4. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs/drones) – depending on size and speed.
If it detects a drone, nobody will fire an interceptor from a Patriot, they're used for missiles and aircraft. Ukraine already has Patriots. Do they use them like this? Did Russia flood them with cheap drones? No & no.
They do and have done because if they ignore the drones they get blown up. We aren't talking about little quad copters here.
Why use missiles if Russia knows they won’t/can’t defend against drones.
Don’t know a single time a Russia jet has been hit by a Patriot missile.
Because missiles do way more damage but are way more expensive. Drones probably can't destroy a bunker, for instance

AD is multilayered, you don't shoot Patriots at drones, there are different systems for that.
OK. Tell that to the Ukrainians because they have been and still are
Yes, in May 2023 and June this year because the US gave the missiles for collecting the data against drones. Two instances. And we're in the 4th year of war. I'm sure there are a few more that aren't public, or that I missed, but they receive all the time stuff to try against new Russian systems. And they didn't shoot them at cheap drones, because the discussion was about the Russians shooting a shit load of cheap drones at them.
I'll try to take photos, next time

The targets matter and threats are prioritized. Either way, they are defensive in nature and won’t help Ukraine retake ground or end the war.
They don't send only Patriots.
