I think if you really care about them you should keep trying but with love and compassion (with common sense of course!)

It can be difficult in short term but it creates healthy long term relationships.

In my experience, their willful ignorance and animalistic idolatry is very difficult to tolerate without high levels of contempt.

But I agree your ideal, in theory.
