I think a lot is magical, it's just that we forget the magic when we see how it works. There is a feeling of magic in unexpected outcomes, results and solutions, for example. We don't take the magic away if we understand, but do forget to look at it with those eyes.
If you understand a system that produces a complex outcome, like natural selection, the magic "remains" a bit longer because you have to train your mind to think thru an (long-running) iterative process before a comptehensive result emerges.
