Dear Techno-anarchists,

What's the better option for a Nostr enjoyer to run Graphene OS, the Pixel 8 Pro or the 9a? Didn't running Graphene get tougher on the newer Pixels? I don't need anything particularly fancy other than a music player and a telephone which I can ignore incoming calls from.

Actually... On my last Pixel, the audio quality was noticeably shitter than an iTelephone. Is the audio still shit? That's actually pretty important.

9a is great.

There's a couple down the road about the same price, maybe the 9a looks more stupid but it doesn't mention stupidity in the technical docs.

9a works nice here too. No problems with Audio at all. Using Music Player App from zappstore.

Installation got even easier with the web-installer.

just saw the fedi-version of this post. the edit didn't federate of course, made me giggle.

anyways, interested in the answer.

(about the audio, i would bet on your headphones being bluetooth and maybe even apple?)

Headphones wise I'm very fond of my Sennheiser HD25s, which I wouldn't want to chnage, unless they broke or I lost them....

The iTelephone swill works well so I guess I could use that more as a music player and use the Graphene phone for actual phone stuff. Apple, at this stage, seems way more vulnerable to UK Gov shennaigens, hense why I think I should make the move now before it's too late.

If you want minimal price, go with the 8a, for most performance the 9 pro or 10 pro.

The 9a comes with better build quality and one more year of updates (always 7 years after launch)

Here two articles to help set it up

Great, thanks Max, will take a read.

Still on 7A 😶

Considering the unclear future of Pixels and GrapheneOS support I'd go for Pixel 9 (Pro/XL whatever).

8 Pro has better camera, display and build quality. 9a is newer and less powerful (a series is the cheapest options) but gets updates for a substantially longer time. I would recommend the 9a for most people because of updates and longevity but you'd want other models of you cared about better spec.
