Once I went to eat dinner with 5 friends at a restaurant. The next day everyone was terribly sick with food poisoning except me. We found out that many other people who had eaten there that night also got sick.

I was the only one who prayed a blessing for my food before eating it.

I later found out that Saint Benedict was nearly poisoned twice, but both times he prayed a blessing for his food and both times he was suddenly prevented from eating it. Once a poisoned cup shattered upon being blessed, and the other time a raven stole poisoned bread immediately after his prayer.

Is it so strange to believe? Because my experience seems to prove history true.

Bless us O Lord and these thy gifts which we are about to receive, from thy bounty, through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Excellent admonition, brother, I love anecdotes! If sometimes I forget to pray before I begin to eat I will recite Psalm 103:1

"Bless the Lord, O my soul,

and all that is within me,

bless His holy name!"

But pray tell, dost thou always pray like a Pilgrim? 😄
