Unpopular opinion:

I am thinking of integrating ETH in my investment portfolio.

Small position but for the long run.

Any thoughts?

Bitcoin only.

There's no second best.

Agreed for the overall long-term generational wealth and utility.

The others I'll gamble on because I got them so cheap and if they go to zero they go to zero. I'm no longer putting money in anything except BTC since the last alt season. I took profits from the shit coins and rolled them into BTC and I've done the same with some stock purchases I picked up when the market dumped during covid

I first bought 9 ETH and 1 BTC in 2015. Sold all the BTC I had to make a truck payment so it didn't get repoed when I was in school, and lost work. I'm not happy about that at all.

I sold some ETH to pay bills while in school as well. I'm more saddened by the loss in BTC than ETH lol. I still have some that when it climbs I move to BTC, so I figure I'll wait for the next bull run. I'm looking at it like an investment vehicle that is a short term gamble and may go to shit, but I don't have much tied up in. I look at BTC like an investment for my kids and grandkids.

Don’t be too hard on yourself, sometimes you need to do what you need to do.

At least you didn’t use your BTC to buy a pizza 🤣

I had ETH before but sold it for BTC. I am looking at BTC as a commodity and ETH as a security driven by tech.

I agree I actually held on to my algorand bag as well from when I was shit coining. I held on for strictly investment reasons from the utilitization it's already providing but that and eth to me are like stocks

That's true

I guess it depends on what role you would like ETH to play in your investment portfolio.

For the role of the digital gold, a vehicle for long term savings, a way to preserve value, I think there is no second best. Buy Bitcoin.

On the other hand, if you treat ETH as like a stock, a security, which by the way it probably is, an unregistered security, like a company, and you use ETH as a way to invest in this company, then it may be an OK idea.

If a small size, like you said, and you are okay with the risks coming from the fact ETH is not decentralized, not censorship resistant and has no guaranteed scarcity, and you want to bet on its price increase, I'd say it is, or it may be a valid idea, a small part of the portfolio part for risky stocks.

But even then, price of ETH is anyway highly correlated with Bitcoin price, do you might not get much more alpha from it.

Good luck with your investments.

And of course, I don't know your situation so I'm not in a position to give any investment advise.

You nailed it.

I carry BTC in my portfolio as a long term commodity. It also helps to stabilize the overall volatility (literature says that having 3-6% in BTC is beneficial to your overall portfolio).

I was looking at re-entering ETH and treat it like a security (like a high risk stock) because I see a lot of tech starting to gain interest in it.

I would probably use a centralized platform and even stake ETH with them. I personally do not have the time to maintain and manage DEFI staking anymore, I’ve jumped that ship already.

That’s how I see it for now.

Thanx for the input!
