Even with just isolating it to GST, this means ABN withholding becomes automatic. Can't get an ABN because the government doesn't think you are running a 'true' business? That's o.k, client payments will automatically have the ABN withholding applied of 47%. True tyranny. The only way around it will be to use a different medium of exchange. This transition is going to be interesting.
As I said earlier, there will be little pushback from people on this.
However that doesn’t mean everyone is just going to operate within this system either. If the gov thinks they can get away with 47% withholding they’ve got another thing coming.
All good and well to sneak something like this through with your compliant population, very different story enforcing it.
