It is 2025 and people are still using *conspiracy theorist* as a pejorative.
I self identify as a conspiracy theorist and I still use it as a pejoritive. Most conspiracy theories have turned out to be BS. A few wins don't make up for our thousand misses we conveniently forget when it is time to run the scores.
Same. For example, I have little doubt Trump staged his assassination attempt. His entire persona is schtick. Why? It works.
Every once in a while he says the truth.
"I don't care about you. I only need your vote. " - Truth
"Some people aren't willing to do what it takes to win.". - but, "They stole the election"
If the first one is true, he can't believe the second, and what's he referring to he would do? Stage it.
More than a few wins, but regardless, the pejorative nature of the term is a way of dismissing the person who doesn't buy the mainstream narrative on a given thing rather than engaging with their specific arguments or alternative views. It is a kind of ad hominem and therefore unhelpful. That's my point.
I honestly have a conspiracy theory that this is a willfull psyop. I think they use planted nutters like Alex Jones to spread genuine craziness mixed in with true conspiracies as a way to poison the well of inconvenient truths will garbage. Very effective way to scare regular people away from questioning the narrative.
That said, you might just as well try dying on the hill that the N word isn't racist it just means an ignorant person. It's been effectively ruined for everyone and we're never going back.
