starting from scratch would be best, imo, you get seed words to backup your LND since the latest versions of LND support it. otherwise, you'll be using the Start9 LND backup to backup your wallet and channels. that is not ideal, IMO, but it's fine if you have a good backup solution.

If I understand correctly, do you mean that, if starting from scratch, to go with a start9 over Umbrel?
Or that regardless of one’s current setup, when trying a new option it’s better to set up new node/wallet/channels etc?
it's probably too early for me to tell. give me a few weeks or months and i'll be able to say without a doubt which one i prefer. start9 is great if you're starting from scratch, it has a great backup feature, and uses https over the local LAN to encrypt local network traffic.
