Yes, Lightning can replace credit card transactions by cutting out all of the middle men. Instead of your money being marked on a ledger to be settled in a month by a handful of institutions, your Bitcoin settles instantly over the lightning network. It doesn't settle on chain, which is what makes it so fast. But the beauty of lightning is that you always have a ticket to do so, which is what makes it secure.
