If global feels like too much you can try following a bunch of people - the ones the people who interacted with you so far follow. Iris client has a follow all button that makes this easy. Follow like 500-1k people then you will have a much more interesting feed! You can prune this follow list as you bump into people who repeatedly say things you dislike. Worked really well for me. What I did was: I followed like 3k people then after a couple of months of interacting with them ~800 of them followed me back and I unfollowed the rest!
