Too true! I think with Google's clamping down on Manifest v2 there will be more Firefox users. Also, good to ensure there is always strong and active competition.

Google is the biggest financer of Firefox. I would prefer a more independent browser like epiphany, but still lacking many features.

Yes that funding is largely to have Google Search the default on Firefox (like I think Googler also pays Apple for the same reason). But it is easy to switch search engines and I use my own hosted SearXNG as my search engine on Firefox.

I'm using searxng from my own server as well, if yacy would work well though would be great alternative. Searxng still relies on google, and mainstream search engines.
