Twitter scrubs a community note on a China-state account that mentioned the Uyghur genocide.

Elon, of course, maintains Tesla showrooms in Xinjiang, huge

manufacturing plants and Tesla sales in China, and limits his usual outspokenness to never offend the Chinese Government.

another example of why companies cannot be a public square.

👍

i don’t know for sure why the note was removed. possibly it was just community notes working as intended, perhaps it was elon protecting his interests in China. elon has certainly acted to remove specific community notes in the past.

the point is the same either way: even the appearance and possibility of corruption make it untenable for a company to be a public square.

There is no evidence that this community notes was “scrubbed”! This is not the way.

The notes are still there. If I had to bet, I'd guess that the PRC's disinformation army is busy voting them down on Community Notes.

certainly possible

Same with Tim Cook and every western ceo. They shut their mouths about trans, gay and other crap that they promote in the west
